Modular Decking System

What is it?

Jigsaw modular decking consists of manageable size sections (Modules) that can be quickly bolted together to create larger areas of decking. All modules would normally be delivered fully assembled. All the joists and decking boards built up in our workshop prior to delivery. Any peripherals such as balustrade, pergolas, planters, seating etc, would also be pre-built in our workshop. This system gives a certain amount of self build scope for any D.I.Y. enthusiasts. Standard shapes and sizes are available as outlined at the end of this page. This does not mean that we at Jigsaw no longer design and build bespoke decks. On the contrary, the largest proportion of our business is still designing and building individual systems for our clients. What is does mean however, is that they are now designed in modular form.

How does it help you.

Primarily it speeds up the whole assembly operation by cutting down to a bare minimum the time taken on site to build the deck. All the hard time consuming work is done inside our workshop area. Here we have easy access to all our specialised equipment for cutting and assembling the modules. Time on site, your home, is cut down to hours not days or weeks as in other building methods.

Is it messy.

No. Because the main cutting and shaping is done away from your home we minimise the level of disruption and intrusion into your normal daily lives.

Will it save me money.

The answer is an unequivocal yes. We work more efficiently in our workshop unaffected by bad weather or site conditions. The need for time consuming daily travel to and from the site is no longer an issue or additional cost, which must always be reflected in the price. When efficiency goes up, costs come down.

Does it impose limitations on styles and sizes.

By careful design and construction all manor of shapes and sizes are possible. Anything from a simple low level flat deck, up to split level decks and finally large multi-level constructions fall within modular decking construction techniques.

What about site preparation.

For most decks placed free standing within the garden all that is required is a flat level site. This can be either specially prepared or if the position is firm enough we can lay straight onto your lawn or garden. A ground cover membrane is provide with all level decks to prevent anything from growing once the deck is in position. Multi level decks or some decks on sloping ground near to your home may need post and beams for support and levelling. We would normally recommend that you allow us to carry out this work on arrival. (We reserve the right to make an additional charge for any such work.)

Is planning consent required.

For low level decks placed within the garden there is normally no planning required. However with decks that could be considered extensions to your home or overlook your neighbours property you should always consult with your local planning authority.
